Depressive symptoms have been in the limelight for many kinds of people, but few studies have explored positive resources for combating depressive symptoms among Chinese nurses. The purpose of this study is to explore the association between work-family conflict (WFC) and depressive symptoms among Chinese female nurses, along with the mediating and moderating role of psychological capital (PsyCap) in this relationship. This cross-sectional study was completed during the period of ...

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of manganese (Mn)-induced cytotoxicity on heat shock proteins in chicken spleen lymphocytes. Lymphocytes were cultured in medium in the absence and presence of MnCl2 (2 × 10−4, 4 × 10−4, 6 × 10−4, 8 × 10−4, 10 × 10−4, and 12 × 10−4 mmol/L) for 12, 24, 36, and 48 h in vitro. Then, the mRNA levels of HSP27, HSP40, HSP60, HSP70, and HSP90 were examined by real-time quantitative PCR. The results showed that the mRNA levels of HSP27, ...

Our previous proteomics study revealed that thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) was down-regulated by miR-373. However, little is known of the mechanism by which miR-373 decreases TXNIP to stimulate metastasis. In this study, we show that miR-373 promotes the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. MiR-373 suppresses TXNIP by binding to the 3'UTR of TXNIP, which in turn, induces cancer cell EMT and metastasis. TXNIP co-expression, but not the TXNIP-3'UTR, ...

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Inadvertent intraoperative hypothermia (core temperature <360 C) is a recognized risk in surgery and has adverse consequences. However, no data about this complication in China are available. Our study aimed to determine the incidence of inadvertent intraoperative hypothermia and its associated risk factors in a sample of Chinese patients.
METHODS: We conducted a regional cross-sectional survey in Beijing from August through December, 2013. Eight hundred thirty ...

Dexmedetomidine Alleviates Hyperoxia-Induced Acute Lung Injury via Inhibiting NLRP3 Inflammasome Activation
[ PUBLICATION ]
BACKGROUND/AIMS: Dexmedetomidine (Dex), a specific agonist of α2-adrenoceptor, has been reported to have extensive pharmacological effects. In this study, we focused on the protective effect of Dex on hyperoxia-induced acute lung injury and further explored its possible molecular mechanisms.
METHODS: The model of hyperoxia-induced acute lung injury was established by continuous inhalation of oxygen (FiO2= 0.90) for 7 d in neonatal rats in vivo. The in vitro experiments were carried out ...

OBJECTIVES: To explore the correlations among social isolation and symptoms of anxiety and depression among patients with breast cancer in China and to further verify the mediating role of social support in social isolation and symptoms of depression or anxiety.
DESIGN: A cross-sectional survey.
SETTINGS: The cluster sampling method was conducted for 456 female inpatients diagnosed with breast cancer at the Tumor Hospital Affiliated of Harbin Medical University from April 2019-September ...

Glucose-regulated phosphorylation of TET2 by AMPK reveals a pathway linking diabetes to cancer
[ PUBLICATION ]
Diabetes is a complex metabolic syndrome that is characterized by prolonged high blood glucose levels and frequently associated with life-threatening complications1,2. Epidemiological studies have suggested that diabetes is also linked to an increased risk of cancer3–5. High glucose levels may be a prevailing factor that contributes to the link between diabetes and cancer, but little is known about the molecular basis of this link and how the high glucose state may drive genetic and/or ...

Intrinsic BET inhibitor resistance in SPOP-mutated prostate cancer is mediated by BET protein stabilization and AKT–mTORC1 activation
[ PUBLICATION ]
Mutations in SPOP, the gene encoding a component of the E3 ubiquitin ligase complex, impair ubiquitination-dependent degradation of BRD2, BRD3 and BRD4 proteins and result in activation of ATK–mTORC1 signaling and resistance to BET inhibitors. Pharmacological blockade of AKT represents a viable strategy to restore the sensitivity of SPOP-mutant prostate tumors to BET inhibitors. These results, together with findings by Dai et al. and Janouskova et al., uncover a new nongenetic mechanism ...

243 surface soil samples were collected from the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region, and the concentration distributions and compositional profiles of 27 parent PAHs (PPAHs), nitro- and oxy-derivatives (NPAHs and OPAHs), respectively, and health risk of 16 PPAHs were determined. Atmospheric samples were collected at two sites with high topsoil concentrations of PAHs to assist in identifying the emission sources of PPAHs. The total concentrations of PPAHs, NPAHs and OPAHs fell in the ranges ...

Human dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) are oral mesenchymal stem cells with potential to differentiate into various cell types. Recent studies of DPSCs have focused on microRNAs (miRNAs), a class of small noncoding RNAs that play crucial roles in regulating DPSC phenotypes. In the current study, the expression of miR-140-5p was significantly decreased during lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-mediated differentiation of DPSCs in vitro. Overexpression of miR-140-5p enhanced proliferation of DPSCs and ...

Autologous CLL cell vaccination early after transplant induces leukemia-specific T cells
[ PUBLICATION ]
BACKGROUND: Patients with advanced hematologic malignancies remain at risk for relapse following reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC) allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). We conducted a prospective clinical trial to test whether vaccination with whole leukemia cells early after transplantation facilitates the expansion of leukemia-reactive T cells and thereby enhances antitumor immunity.
METHODS: We enrolled 22 patients with advanced chronic lymphocytic ...

Sucrose (Suc) transporters (SUCs or SUTs) are important regulators in plant growth and stress tolerance. However, the mechanism of SUCs in plant abiotic stress resistance remains to be dietermined. Here, we found that AtSUC9 expression was induced by abiotic stress, including salt, osmotic and cold stress conditions. Disruption of AtSUC9 led to sensitive responses to abiotic stress during seed germination and seedling growth. Further analyses indicated that the sensitivity phenotype of ...

CD47-blocking immunotherapies stimulate macrophage-mediated destruction of small-cell lung cancer
[ PUBLICATION ]
Small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a highly aggressive subtype of lung cancer with limited treatment options. CD47 is a cell-surface molecule that promotes immune evasion by engaging signal-regulatory protein alpha (SIRPα), which serves as an inhibitory receptor on macrophages. Here, we found that CD47 is highly expressed on the surface of human SCLC cells; therefore, we investigated CD47-blocking immunotherapies as a potential approach for SCLC treatment. Disruption of the interaction of ...

[ PUBLICATION ]
Objective To analyze the characteristics of high risk sexual behaviors and HIV infectious status among men who have sex with men (MSM) who use drugs in Tianjin in 2016. Methods From April to December in 2016, MSM who use drugs in Tianjin were targetedly and extensively mobilized to receive testing by snowball sampling method. The inclusion criteria were as follows: men aged 18 years old and above; have had oral or anal sex with men in the last 6 months; have had drug abuse history in ...
