Fucoidan Induces Apoptosis and Inhibits Proliferation of Hepatocellular Carcinoma via the p38 MAPK/ERK and PI3K/Akt Signal Pathways
[ PUBLICATION ]
Purpose: Fucoidan is a natural bioactive product with broad therapeutic applications. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignancy of the liver associated with a relatively high mortality rate; thus, effective treatments are urgently needed. Here, the effects of fucoidan on HCC and the underlying mechanism were explored.
Methods: The proliferation and apoptosis of two HCC cell lines (BEL-7402 and LM3) treated with different concentrations of fucoidan or saline were assessed. The ...

A prospective cohort study of lesion location and its relation to post-stroke depression among Chinese patients
[ PUBLICATION ]
BACKGROUND: Post-stroke depression (PSD) is a common consequence of stroke that negatively interferes with the rehabilitation outcome in patients. It remains unclear what relationship exists between the site and size of brain infarcts and the development of PSD and the risk factors for PSD. We conducted a MRI-based cohort study to examine the radiological correlations for PSD in Chinese patients with ischemic stroke.
METHODS: Our study included 163 patients with acute ischemic stroke. ...

OBJECTIVE: Coronary artery disease (CAD) remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Previous systematic reviews and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials concluded that nursing caring interventions (NCIs) are beneficial for coronary artery patients. However, most of those interventions were conducted in outpatient or home-based settings or through the telephone. Due to its multiple benefits, the authors recommended the application of such interventions to ...

Facile one step solvothermal synthesis and high visible light photocatalytic property of flower-like Bi2O3/BiOBr microspheres
[ PUBLICATION ]
We used facile one step solvothermal method to fabricate Bi2O3/BiOBr microspheres with porous flower-like structure which has good photocatalytic degradation ability to Rhodamine B. Meanwhile, the active species during photocatalytic reaction were explored. The results showed that the catalytic activity of Bi2O3/BiOBr was higher than that of BiOBr. After 140 minutes’ irradiation with 7 W LED lamp, the degradation efficiency of the Bi2O3/BiOBr photocatalyst reached 91.4%. The larger ...

Effects of waste rusted iron shavings on enhancing anaerobic digestion of food wastes and municipal sludge
[ PUBLICATION ]
In this study, rusted iron shavings with Fe0 and iron oxides were added to the mixture of food wastes and municipal sludge to improve methane (CH4) production in the fermentation system. The effectiveness of such treatments was evaluated based on methane yield, biogas production, and production of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) and Fe2+ in the sludge supernatant. The results showed that the maximum daily methane yield (DCH4) and specific methane production potential (SCH4) for the group ...

Being proposed in 2007, cloud computing has been a hot researching area of computer network technology. Some giant companies can offer the cloud services now. With the development of cloud computing, a set of security problem appears, such as accessing security and so on. This paper surveys the security problems of current cloud computing., then based on the architecture of cloud computing, a security model is proposed.

Motor imagery classification has been widely applied in constructing brain computer interface to control the outside equipment as an alternative neural muscular pathway. EEG as the most popular non-invasive brain signal suffers from low signal to noise ratio and unpredictable pattern variation even for the same subject. To improve the classification accuracy of EEG based motor imageries, many deep learning based solutions have been developed, mainly including convolutional neural network ...

EEG motor imagery recognition based brain computer interface has been an import scheme to construct an alternative pathway of the brain to the outside world. EEG signal is usually buried in noise and has very low signal to noise ratio (SNR), which has presented great challenge for efficient motor imagery classification. In addition, the large intra-subject and inter-subject signal variance toward one specific motor imagery also brings difficulty for accurate classification. In recent ...

Protective effects of oyster extract against hepatic tissue injury in alcoholic liver diseases
[ PUBLICATION ]
Oyster extract is an effective bioactivity component. It has abundant nutritional value and antiviral, antitumor and immune defense functions. The role of oyster extract in treating liver injury has been paid more attention. We use Wistar rats to make alcoholic liver disease model through injecting alcohol into rats’ stomachs. These rats were randomly divided into five groups: model group, control group, low-dose, middle-dose and high-dose experimental group with a dose of 0.12 g kg−1, ...

Toll-like receptor 5 gene polymorphism is associated with breast cancer susceptibility
[ PUBLICATION ]
Toll-like receptor 5 (TLR5) plays a fundamental role in immune responses. Recent findings suggest the TLR5 expression level affects cancer progression and development. In the present study, our examination of 256 breast carcinomas specimens revealed that TLR5 is overexpressed in breast carcinomas, and that TLR5 overexpression correlated with lymph node metastasis and cancer grade (p<0.01). In a case-control study, we also analyzed associations between TLR5 single nucleotide polymorphisms ...

We address the nonlinear Goos-Hänchen shift of Helmholtz solitons at a nonlocal nonlinear interface between a Kerr medium and a nonlocal nonlinear medium. Based on the framework of the Helmholtz theory, we have demonstrated that the Goos-Hänchen shift depends on the angle of the incidence, the linear and nonlinear refractive index mismatch at the interface, the nonparaxial parameter and the degree of nonlocality. Interestingly, internal and external refraction can be introduced when the ...
