    BACKGROUND: Allergic reactions to mosquito bites are a common problem. Although IgE-mediated hypersensitivity has been reported, other immunologic mechanisms may be involved.

    We report the cross-reactivities and comparative molecular masses of the IgE epsilon chains in humans, rats, mice, and dogs. Monoclonal human, rat, and mouse IgE, and our purified polyclonal dog IgE were used in the study.     IgD has not been identified in dogs. We produced a monoclonal antibody (mAb) designated 9B during the production of hybridomas to dog IgE.
