PURPOSE: To compare the safety and efficacy of hook wire versus microcoil localization of pulmonary nodules prior to video-assisted thoracoscopic resection (VATS).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective comparative review was conducted of 46 patients (26 hook wire and 20 microcoil) who underwent computed tomography fluoroscopic-guided nodule localizations prior to VATS in a single center between January 2012 and August 2016. Nodule characteristics, procedural details, clinical outcomes, ...

BACKGROUND: Papular urticaria caused by flea bite presents clinical symptoms of hypersensitive reaction accompanied by skin lesions. Diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to the disease often go unrewarded, partly because of our incomplete understanding of the underlying immunopathogenesis.
OBJECTIVE: To characterize the immune response to the flea bite in patients with papular urticaria.
METHODS: This study included 45 randomly selected patients and 17 controls. Cutaneous allergy tests ...

Pigmentary retinopathy due to Bardet-Biedl syndrome: case report and literature review
[ PUBLICATION ]
Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder with clinical and genetic heterogeneity. This syndrome was first described by Laurence and Moon in 1866 and additional cases were described by Bardet and Biedl between 1920 and 1922. The main features are obesity, polydactyly, pigmentary retinopathy, learning disabilities, various degrees of intellectual impairment, hypogonadism, and renal abnormalities. Bardet-Biedl syndrome is both phenotypically and genetically ...

Hepatic angiosarcoma presenting as acute liver failure in young adults. Report of two cases and review of literature

Digital fibrokeratomas are benign acquired lesions. They are firm, more or less hyperkeratotic projections arising out of a collarette of slightly raised skin. Clinically, they resemble rudimentary supernumerary digits. Microscopically, a fibrokeratoma is composed of a core of normal appearing connective tissue covered with an acanthotic epidermis which produces a dense enveloping hyperkeratosis.

Differential profiles of HDAC1 substrates and associated proteins in breast cancer cells revealed by trapping
[ PUBLICATION ]
Histone deacetylase (HDAC) proteins, which regulate the acetylation state of proteins, are the targets of multiple clinical drugs for cancer treatment. Due to the heterogeneity of tumors, HDAC proteins play different roles in the progression of various cancer types. For example, MDA-MB-468 and MDA-MB-231 cells are both triple negative breast cancer cells but belong to different subtypes that display different response to HDAC inhibitor drugs. To investigate the role of HDAC proteins in ...

Sarcoidosis: Report of a Case of Sarcoid Lesions in a Tattoo and Subsequent Discovery of Pulmonary Sarcoidosis
[ PUBLICATION ]
A man 60 years old suddenly developed hard nodules in a tattoo that had been placed 45 years ago. The interest of the case lies in the following points: (1) the histopathology of a biopsied specimen was that of a sarcoid reaction; (2) lung changes were subsequently found that were interpreted as pulmonary sarcoidosis; and (3) the cutaneous lesions began to flatten after the biopsy was taken, and within four months both they and the lung changes had disappeared.

Homosexual conjugality and the struggle for sexual and reproductive rights divides the homosexual movement and is quite a challenge to understand the conceptions that support the passionate defenses and the opposite positions to the 'gay marriage' and/or the sexual and reproductive rights. The purpose of the present paper is to understand how conjugality and parenthood are represented and accepted (or not). Careful research has been conducted among homosexual groups, showing that they ...
