Asthma is a chronic disease that threatens public health worldwide. Multiple studies have shown that oxidative stress plays an important role in the pathogenesis of asthma. Edaravone (Eda), a free radical scavenger, has been found to have a protective effect against lung injury due to its ability to eliminate reactive oxygen species. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of Eda on asthma and the mechanism underlying its actions. An experimental asthma model was induced in ...

We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 17 fatal H7N9 cases in Shanghai in 2013, analyzed clinical variables and described their clinical and epidemiologic characteristics. The median age was 73 years, and 82.4% had underlying medical conditions. The most frequent symptoms were fever (100%), followed by productive cough (47.1%) and dry cough (35.5%). Thirteen (76.5%) patients had dyspnea or respiratory distress, five (29.4%) had shock, and four (23.5%) had acute kidney injury. ...

Endogenous relaxin has recently been demonstrated to protect the airway/lung against age-related fibrosis and against inflammation-associated airway fibrosis in animal models of allergic airways disease (AAD). In the current study, we examined the contribution of the primary relaxin receptor, relaxin family peptide receptor-1 (RXFP1), in mediating these effects of relaxin. Lung tissues from healthy aging RXFP1 gene-knockout (Rxfp1(-/-)) and wild-type (Rxfp1(+/+)) mice and from 8- to ...

Hyperoxic acute lung injury (HALI) is a clinical syndrome as a result of prolonged supplement of high concentrations of oxygen. Previous studies have shown hyperbaric oxygen preconditioning (HBO-PC) had a protective effect on oxidative injury. In the present study, we investigated the effect of HBO-PC on HALI in rats. The results demonstrated that HBO-PC ameliorated the lung biochemical and histological alterations induced by hyperoxia, decreased oxidative products but increased ...

L-arabinose isomerase (L-AI) is the key enzyme for D-galactose isomerization of D-tagatose by biological method. In this research, Lactobacillus plantarum WU14 with high D-tagatose yield was identified as Lactobacillus plantarum was isolated from the number of lactic acid bacteria from pickled vegetables. The crude L-arabinose isomerase activity of Lactobacillus plantarum WU14 with high D-tagatose yield was 13.95 U/mL under the optimal temperature 60°C, pH 7.17 and substrate ...

PURPOSE/AIM: Hyperoxic acute lung injury (HALI) is a clinical syndrome as a result of prolonged supplement of high concentrations of oxygen. As yet, no specific treatment is available for HALI. The present study aims to investigate the effects of edaravone on hyperoxia-induced oxidative injury and the underlying mechanism.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: We treated rats and human pulmonary alveolar epithelial cells with hyperoxia and different concentration of edaravone, then examined the effects ...

Dendritic cells (DCs) pulsed with exosomes can stimulate efficient cytotoxic T-lymphocyte responses and anti-tumor immunity. However, the quantity of DC-derived exosomes (DCex) obtained from various culture systems is very low, which is a significant practical issue hampering progress in this research area and needs to be addressed. Gliomas were particularly aggressive, with high morbidity and mortality, indicating that this is a form of incurable highly malignant tumor of the brain with ...

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic is a significant health threat. Health care worker (HCWs) are at a significant risk of infection which may cause high levels of psychological distress. The aim of this study was to investigate the psychological impact of the COVID-19 on HCWs and factors which were associated with these stresses during the first outbreak in Shanghai. Methods: Between February 9 and 21, 2020, a total of 3,114 frontline HCWs from 26 hospitals in Shanghai completed an online ...

MapReduce has been shown promising to harness the multicore platform. Existing MapReduce libraries on multicore are written with shared-memory Pthreads, which introduce pervasive nondeterminism and might produce nondeterministic results if user-provided map or reduce functions are sensitive to the input order. We propose DMR, a deterministic MapReduce library, to ensure deterministic program behaviors no matter whether map/reduce function is sensitive to the input order. DMR adopts a ...

At present, English teaching does not play the role of a smart classroom, and it is difficult to grasp the student status and characteristics in real time in actual teaching. Based on this, starting from the video image and static image and the actual situation of English classroom teaching, this study, based on the convolutional neural network and random forest algorithm, performs static image human behavior recognition under different image representation conditions, and studies the ...
