The aim of this prospective study is to evaluate the availability of preoperative perfusion SPECT in predicting postoperative pulmonary function following resection. Twenty-three patients with lung cancer who were candidates for lobectomy were investigated preoperatively with spirometry, x-ray computed tomography and99mTc macroaggregated albumin SPECT. Their postoperative pulmonary functions were predicted with these examinations. The forced vital capacity and the forced expiratory ...

Endotracheal/Endobronchial Metastases Clinicopathologic Study With Special Reference to Developmental Modes
[ PUBLICATION ]
BACKGROUND: Endotracheal/endobronchial metastases (EEMs) from nonpulmonary neoplasms are rare. However, their definition and developmental modes have not yet been fully elucidated.
METHODS: EEMs were defined as documented nonpulmonary neoplasms metastatic to the subsegmental or more proximal central bronchus, in a bronchoscopically visible range. The clinical and pathologic features of 16 cases were reviewed, with special emphasis on the developmental modes based on five criteria: ...

BACKGROUND: Multiple chondromatous hamartomas of the lung, which are very rare, are a feature of Carney syndrome. The relation between the two entities is not clear.
METHODS: A patient with multiple chondromatous hamartomas of the lung is described in this article. The literature was reviewed with special reference to the relation between multiple chondromatous hamartomas of the lung and Carney syndrome as well as the triad of gastric epithelioid leiomyosarcoma, functioning extra-adrenal ...

This study examined the incidence of downhill esophageal varices due to SVC syndrome. The presence of downhill esophageal varices was examined by esophagoscopy or autopsy. Downhill esophageal varices were detected in two of nine (22%) patients with SVC syndrome. One case was a 66-year-old male case who and underwent upper lobectomy for lung cancer in September 1985. He developed SVC syndrome due to recurrence in 1986 and died in 1987. Downhill esophageal varices wer in the upper ...

A 52-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of leucocytosis (15000/mm3) detected by a medical check-up. Chest X-ray revealed a tumor shadow in the right upper lung field. Brushing cytology revealed class V. Laboratory data showed increased CRP (6.4mg/dl). Serum G-CSF was 60.4pg/ml (normal < 30). Right upper lobectomy (pT2N0M0) was performed in June, 1993. Histological study revealed giant cell type large cell carcinoma. Immunohistochemical study showed that tumor cells stained ...
